Possibly the most popular Metallica song ever written, it has been played at almost every
show since it's premiere in 1991. It is, as Lars Ulrich put it, "The one that keeps the pool heated".
Since premiering in 1991 it has only been omitted completely from the setlist in 2 years.
In 2001, there were no gigs, so obviously it wasnt played. In 2002, there were only
2 shows, and they were special shows so it wasn't played.
This is debatable, but I'm of the personal opionion that this song has surpassed Led Zepplin's
"Stairway To Heaven" as the most likely song to hear someone playing when you walk into
a guitar store. Whenever someone inexperienced picks up a guitar, Enter Sandman is usually
the first song they'll start playing.
Kirk said the main riff was pretty much an accident. He was playing guitar in his hotel at 3am
with Lars on the phone and Lars like it and told him to use it (ED: Hell of an accident!)
The line "till the Sandman he comes" was originally "till the Sandman will come"
The song is about nightmares, as if you needed me to tell you that :)
Much like One, Master Of Puppets, and Nothing Else Matters,
it is a live show staple. You will almost never see a live Metallica show
without this song being played.

on vocals, Munky (Korn) on rhythm guitar.
July 9th, 2000 - Dallas, TX - Texas Stadium - James absent due to injury. Kid Rock
on vocals, Head (Korn) on rhythm guitar.
July 16th, 2000 - Queen Creek, AZ - Desert Sky Pavilion - James was back from injury, but
just for fun Darron Malakian joined in on rhythm guitar.
June 6th, 2004 - Donington Castle, GB - Donington Park - Lars absent due to medical emergency.
